The Only Thing Worth Having

Every man

Is wasting his life.

Because he is attracted to things

Which can do little for him.

If a man has no money,

He must make it

For sustenance.

A wealthy man

Tends to be the most wasteful

Of all.

Having no need

To work and toil,

He is in a position

To focus purely upon the Essence.

In fact,

There is no greater benefit

Of wealth

Than this.

There are many names

By which to call it.

I shall refer to it

As Freedom.

If sustenance

Has been achieved,

Then any thought or action

That is not a direct attempt at Freedom

Is a waste.

For any thought or action

That is not a direct attempt at Freedom,

Is an attempt at that which

Moves one further from Freedom.

Thus,

Not only is it a waste,

It is an invitation

To more suffering.

The patient man

Achieves nothing

In this life.

The hungry man,

The impatient man,

The impulsive man,

The eager man . . .

Can achieve much.

Freedom

Is the only thing

That can a bring a man

Something real

And significant.

The rest

Is all fluff.

The rest

Is but empty exercise.

The rest

Is but concept

And smoke.

Of what use is it

To be wealthy,

If the only Freedom it can buy one

Is the freedom to not work

Or go where he likes.

What will he do

In his non-working life?

Socialize?

Read nonsensical books?

Look at the stock market?

Root for political parties?

Where will he go

With his materialistic freedom?

How many resorts

Can he visit?

How many souvenirs

Can he buy?

How many jets

Can he ride?

Without Freedom,

A man simply has machines with four wheels,

Live-in-boxes with ninety windows,

Cushions with four legs and hard foam,

Bathrobes with engraved initials.

Freedom is not something

A man Should have.

It is something

He craves.

Without it,

Life is but a string of empty events.

And a man

A shell

Of what he could have been.

Namaste.
